Jerrold and Jacqueline Glass Family

Tennis Court

The Glass Family has supported and sponsored 1,000’s of individuals, institutions, and associations in So. California.

Through the generosity of Jacky and Jerry Glass to the tennis community in So. California many competitive juniors were able to receive college tennis scholarships. Others were able to pursue their dream of playing on the pro tour and teaching professionals have also benefitted greatly. Although competitive junior tennis players, college tennis scholarship recipients, and teaching professionals have been the beneficiaries of the Glass Family, Jacky and Jerry’s grass roots sponsorships have played a vital roll in allowing those in need who would not have had the opportunity to realize their life’s goals by benefiting from the game to receive unlimited tennis lessons. These include: Wheelchair tennis players, stroke survivors, cancer survivors, and anyone recovering from a life threatening illness who wished to use tennis as a rehabilitative modality. Because of the Glass Family, no one has ever been turned away and no person has ever had to pay for these tennis lessons or rehabilitation services.

Some success stories

Stroking Back to Beat a Stroke
For over 20 years the Glass Family has sponsored and supported Lee DeYoung’s stroke recovery project where tennis is used as an exercise modality for those who have suffered a stroke. Many success stories have emerged from this project and no one has ever had to pay for a lesson. Contact Lee DeYoung for more information.

Kate Adamson play tests the hemiplegic stroke chair that was invented by Lee DeYoung to aid stroke survivors in movement and playing tennis.

Kaitlin’s story
Kaitlin Tsue has intractable epilepsy and has had 1,000’s of grand mal seizures. At the age of 12 her parents made the decision along with her doctors to perform a hemispherectomy, a neurological procedure where half or a portion of the brain is removed to mitigate the seizures. Through her traumatic health and troubling teen years there has always been one constant, and that is her love of tennis. Kaitlin and her parents asked Lee DeYoung how it might be possible for her to stay in tennis throughout her life, and so with the Glass Family a plan was formed so that she could improve her tennis enough to become certified as a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA the governing body of tennis teaching professionals in the U.S.) and possibly be gainfully employed in the tennis industry. For two years Lee DeYoung worked with Kaitlin four hours a day, five days a week and she improved enough to take the USPTA certification test. Kaitlin passed and is now a USPTA tennis professional. She is the only fully certified USPTA tennis professional in the world who has had a hemispherectomy. Kaitlin now teaches wheelchair tennis with Head Women’s Tennis Coach Dee Henry at Biola University and also is a tennis instructor for Special Olympics. Wilson Sporting Goods Tennis fully sponsored Kaitlin through this process and due to the generosity of Jacky Glass and the Glass Family Kaitlin and her parents have never had to pay for any of her tennis lessons.
